E-Communication Reflections

 What did I learn?

I have learned many things after participating in E-Comm this year. One of the most important being that I learned to participate and communicate with people better. The only way we can be successful in class is with good communication and participation. We needed to communicate with each sport's coach, as well as the other students we work with. We also needed to participate, and try and cover our sports in order to be successful as well.

How did you learn it?

I learned these lessons just through being in the class. I realized that it would be impossible to cover anything well without participation and communication. In my first quarter, I was given a sport and didn't really know how to cover it. I barely contacted the coach, and I also didn't go to very many matches , which resulted in a sport that was poorly covered. I've tried to do these things differently throughout the year and I think that I have done a much better job.

Why is it important?

These things are important to have because they will help get a better grade in the class, and it would also be beneficial to have later in life. Being able to communicate well is a useful skill to have that some people don't. I believe that the communication skills I've acquired from my E-comm class will definitely be beneficial for future jobs, and will help me stand out from others who might not be able to communicate as well.

What are you greatest strengths/weaknesses? Improvements?

I think some of my greatest strengths this year have been that I have been able to communicate with the coaches well, and I also have been able to keep the sports' websites up to date. I think some of my weaknesses have been that I haven't been able to get out to the sports as much as I could, and I could also work on my voice-overs. I think the thing that I have improved on most in the class has been the communication skills. I used to be shy and didn't really talk that much but I soon learned that I couldn't do that In E-comm if I wanted to be successful.

What am I going to do with what I learned?

I am going to take what I learned into future jobs that I might have. I believe that the skills I've learned would definitely help make me successful and stand out from everyone else who might be applying for the jobs.

Is there anything you would change?

I would change the grading system for the class. I think it makes it very hard on the students when they don't receive a grade until near the end of the semester; it makes it impossible to try to bring up the grade. I also think the grades are confusing because we never know what we are being graded on, so it doesn't make it fair if we receive a grade that is bad. I think that if we got weekly grades, based on how good the packages are and how well we covered the sport.

Overall?

I really enjoy E-comm, and I think it offers many skills that other classes don't. There are some issues with the class, mostly being grades, but other than that I think it's fun and beneficial.

ONW vs Wyandotte Final

Overview

For our final in my E-Comm class, we had to go to the ONW basketball game vs the Wyandotte Bulldogs. Then we had to bring the footage back and edit it to make a story. We had 2 different options in terms of how we made our video, and then we also had to make a written story about what happened in the game.

This was my edited story over the game. I chose to pretty much just do a game recap, with some other stats that I threw in throughout the video.

ONW vs. Wyandotte

Overview

On Tuesday, December 15, the ONW Ravens took on the Wyandotte Bulldogs for the first home game of the season. The Ravens went into the game with a 2-2 overall record.

The Ravens started off the game strong, with points being scored from all over the court. They continued the same dominance throughout the whole first half, dominating the boards and also putting lots of pressure on the Bulldogs. Going into the half, the Ravens were up 27-9.

Coming out of the half, the Ravens didn't let up. They continued to put pressure on the Bulldogs, stretching out the lead even more. The Raven post players dominated the game, posting big numbers in both the scoring and rebounding columns.

Junior Matt Vanderslice led the team in scoring and rebounds, with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Jack Parks also had a dominate game, scoring 15 points and coming away with 6 rebounds.

The Ravens came away with the win, beating the Bulldogs 63-24. Coach Grove was very pleased with the win, saying "We did a great job if handling their pressure and punching the ball inside", he also said, "The guys did a good job of containing the ball and defensively rebounding".

With this win, the Ravens improve their record to 3-2. Going on from this, the Ravens will take on Shawnee Mission South, at Shawnee Mission South, where they will hope to grow from this dominate performance.

Swim and Dive Pre-Season

Overview

We went to one of the swim practices and filmed the swim and dive team. We also interviewed the coach and asked him his thoughts about the beginning of the season.

What I learned

I learned that it's important to have a good interview setup, and it's also important to check the sound on the mic before we do the interview.

Overall

I think that the shots we used were good and interesting but we could've done a lot better on the interview and the overall story.

ONW NOW #11

Overview

In this week's edition of ONW NOW, we feature Jared the Snake Catcher, Toys for Tots, and Coffee With Taj.

Overall

I think this edition was good, Tiaja's segment is interesting and the story made by the Sophomore was also very good. The Sound Quality throughout the entire show was good and I think all of the stories were interesting
